Shutter Making General Process

Shutter Making General Process

A Better Process by Design

Partners in the Process

Logic and economics prove that shutter companies cannot be both a quality millwork and custom operation. The partnership of O’Hair Shutters, performing the millwork function, and Austin Window Fashions/Window Fashions of Texas, performing the custom function, enables us to produce and install the highest quality shutter in the industry at a better price and in half the time of the competition.

There are many ways to produce a plantation shutter. And most companies will argue that their process is the best. However, comparing processes, final product quality and delivery time will leave you asking, “Why doesn’t everybody do it this way?”

A Two Part Process- Millwork and Customization

The production of a finished shutter includes two distinct and separate functions. The millwork function, where green lumber is converted into a stable raw material and milled into shutter components, and the custom aspect, where windows are measured, shutters specified, and materials obtained, framed, finished, and installed. The expertise and tooling for these processes are as different as night and day.

Trust the Millwork to the Experts

We have teamed with O’Hair Shutters- one of the finest millwork operations in existence. Since 1939, three generations of this family owned business have focused exclusively on the millwork functions associated with the production of premium shutters. O’Hair has become one of the largest shutter operations in the world by entering into strategic relationships with regional suppliers like us who expertly perform the custom aspects of the business. Their tremendous volume enables them to continually invest in the best equipment available. A tour of their impressive factory in Lubbock, Texas is available at millworkbyohair.com

Better Materials Make for Better, and Bigger, Shutters

O’Hair’s equipment is state-of-the-art and is continually updated and upgraded as technology progresses. No local shutter producer could afford to invest in even one of the millwork machines O’Hair uses to create the best shutter available. The quality of raw materials, combined with the structural stability of their product, enables O’Hair to build panels 40% wider and taller than any other shutter company, while still offering the only real lifetime warranty in the industry. Single shutter panels can be made up to 50” wide while competitors panels can only be made a maximum width of 36”.

Making Shutters Right and Delivering them Faster

The other benefit of our relationship with O’Hair is time. Other shutter companies commit to delivery times ranging from eight to twelve weeks. O’Hair’s focus on millwork enables them to deliver their superior product in a timely manner. Our focus on the custom aspects enables us to consistently turn O’Hair’s superior work into a quality finished product in less than half the time of the competition. We deliver most orders within four weeks.

The quality of our processes and the resulting product has enabled us to become one of the largest producers of shutters in the nation.
